Calligraphy and Painting Exhibitions in 1924-1926 as Part of the Flood Relief Effort in Hunan Province

Abstract
In 1924, a big flood hit Hunan Province, resulting in heavy losses.As part of the flood relief effort which was unfolding rigorously in the society, Hunanese calligraphers and painters living in Shanghai launched a series of calligraphy and painting charity donations to raise funds to help people in flood-stricken areas, which had got positive critical responses and had yielded fruitful results.The calligraphy and painting exhibitions held in 1924-1926 as part of the flood relief effort in Hunan Province marks an important transition of modern calligraphy and painting-based charity work from emergence to maturation.As a new charitable way, the relief by calligraphy and painting exhibition not only promotes the centralization and transparency of charitable funds and ordering of the philanthropic activities, but also integrates philanthropic activities, commercial activities and studies of arts, jointly promoting China's charitable work.关键词
