Air-sea interactions in North Pacific during boreal winter on multidecadal timescales

Abstract
In order to better realize the air-sea interaction on multidecadal time scales in the North Pacific,the correlation relationship between turbulent heat flux and Sea Surface Temperature (SST) was investigated.When the correlation coefficient was positive,the ocean affects the atmosphere,while negative,the atmosphere exerts forcing on the ocean.Two different methods were used to investigate the correlation between two variables.The relationship between the heat flux and the SST was investigated not only by taking average Sea Surface Temperature Anomaly (SSTA) in the North Pacific as a whole,but by dividing the average SSTA into three areas.Results show that the ocean exerts forcing on atmosphere in most North Pacific area,especially near Japanese sea and in the central and eastern part of the North Pacific.These two areas are the keys to the air-sea interaction in the North Pacific on multidecadal time scales.关键词
