Shaking table test of a steel frame equipped with viscous wall dampers

Abstract
Investigated a shaking table test on a 3-story steel frame with and without viscous wall dampers (VWDs) under three earthquake excitations of different earthquake levels.The vibration absorption effect and energy dissipation features of VWD were analyzed by the comparisons of dynamic characteristics and responses between the two structures.It is indicated that VWD is a passive energy dissipation damping device,which can provide additional stiffness and additional damping at the same time.The vibration absorption effect on displacements of structure model is remarkable under the contribution of additional damping and stiffness.Moreover,the additional stiffness decreases and the additional damping increases gradually by increase of magnitude of seismic wave excitations.In addition,the fitness between the finite element analysis and shaking table test varies with the response index and the excitation conditions,which illustrates the limitation of the traditional Maxwell model in simulating the dynamic mechanical characteristics of the VWD.关键词
