Abstract

α-Al2O3 membrane supported ZrO2 dynamic membranes were prepared and applied in oil-water emulsion separation. Four reagents were used in polluted membrane cleaning based on pollution mechanism. The optimum cleaning sequence (NaOH-Tween-80-HCl-citric acid) is confirmed by theoretical analysis. For one-step cleaning, flux recovery rates under different concentrations of cleaning reagents were studied and the optimum reagent concentration and cleaning time were obtained. The performance of these reagents is in an order of HCl > NaOH > citric acid > Tween-80. Multi-step cleaning results show that the four-step cleaning method has the best performance with flux recovery rate of 79.8%. Repetitive cleaning results combined with filtration resistance model and infrared analysis show that the supporting membrane can be reused for 3~4 times. This study is helpful in investigating cleaning and recycling of dynamic membranes.
