摘要

Abstract

Fusarium head blight (FHB) of wheat is mainly caused by Fusarium graminearum. It results in yield reduction and deteriorates seed quality. As a new monocotyledonous model plant, Brachypodium distachyon (Bd21) is able to interact with F. graminearum but often shows relatively resistant phenotype at normal growth condition. In this paper, we studied the progress of F. graminearum against B. distachyon 21 spikes at different conditions and confirmed the optimal condition for type II resistance evaluation at 28℃, 75% humidity. In the early stage of F. graminearum infection of B. distachyon, the spores mainly germinated on pistil, then the hyphae quickly moved to ovary and extended to the bottom of the floret and entered into spikes nodes, extending down along the rachis. In addition, when F. graminearum infected the coleoptile of B. distachyon, hyphae can enter the coleoptile cells and stretch downward. B. distachyon can play an important role in the study of wheat type II resistance.
