Algorithm for SAR target azimuth angle estimation based on sparse representation

Abstract
Precise estimation of target azimuth angle has a great advantage for improving the performance of template -based automation target recognition(ATR) algorithm of synthetic aperture radar(SAR),which can dramatically reduce the computational burden. A SAR azimuth angle estimation algorithm based on sparse representation is proposed in this paper. First-ly,the dictionary matrix is constructed by all the training samples to get the sparse representation vector of the testing sample, and then the reconstruction errors are calculated with the nonzero coefficients in the sparse representation vector. The azimuth angle corresponding to the sample with smallest reconstruction error is selected as the final estimation result by means of the sensitivity property of target azimuth angle in SAR images. The proposed algorithm can overcome the ambiguity phenomenon in 180° azimuth angle effectively,which is different from the existing algorithms. The experiment based on measured MSTAR (moving and stationary target acquisition and recognition)data was performed. The validity of the proposed algorithm was veri-fied by the experimental results.关键词
