Abstract

Inspired by the magnetic induction characteristic of biologies, the magnetotactic wood was prepared as a new kind of functional material while this application is still in its infancy.This study focused on understanding the influence of hydrothermal technique, such as temperature, time and reactant concentration, on the structures and properties of the magnetotactic wood.The surface morphology, crustal type and magnetic properties of magnetotactic wood were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and magnetic property measurement system.The results showed that the high reaction temperature was beneficial to the formation of larger size magnetic nanoparticles on the wood surface, and the magnetotactic wood with higher saturation magnetization was obtained.The hydrothermal time had an significant influence on the morphology and magnetism of the initial formation of the magnetotactic wood.However, the number of magnetic nanoparticles that deposited on the wood surface reached saturation when the reaction time was 8 h.The concentration of the reactants had an important influence on the purity of the magnetic particles that grown on the wood surface.The magnetic particles with high purity can be obtained under the appropriate concentration of reactants.In addition, on the basis of optimization hydrothermal processing, the multifunctional wood materials with magnetic, superhydrophobic and anti-ultraviolet properties was prepared through the hydrophobic modification of magnetotactic wood which would greatly expand the application of magnetotactic wood.
