Effects of phenolic-acids on growth and enzyme activity of maize-seedlings

摘要

Abstract

Experiments were conducted to study the effects of ferulic acid,p-coumaric acid,syringicacid,p-hydroxybenzoic acid and vanillic acid of different concentrations on the growth and physiology of maize seedlings.Maize seedlings were planted in box and were treated with 45 mL of 0.01,0.1,1,10,50,100 mg · L-1 of the five kinds of phenolic acids at 10 day intervals.The shoot height,root length,activities of superoxidase (SOD),catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD),Malondialdehyde (MDA),content of soluble protein and sugar were determined.The results showed that five kinds of phenolic acids all inhibited the growth of maize seedlings,reduced the activities of SOD,POD,soluble protein content,shoot height,and root length.The content of soluble protein of seedlings had more significant decrease under 0.01,0.1,1,10 mg · L-1 of p-hydroxybenzoic acid,p-coumaric acid at 0.1 mg · L-1 had more significant inhibitions than other treatments.In addition,compared with the control without ferulic acid,p-coumaric acid,p-hydroxybenzoic acid,vanillic acid,the activitie of CAT decreased,while it increased under the treatment of syringic acid.The content of soluble suger increased under the treatment of ferulic acid,p-coumaric acid,increased syringic acid,and vanillic acid,while it decreased under the treatment of p-hydroxybenzoic,the order is p-hydroxybenzoic acid >vanillic acid > ferulic acid > p-coumaric acid > syringic acid.
