Abstract

Monoculture pond for Stichopus japonicus and polyculture pond for S.japonicus and Urechis unicinctus are compared based on five environmental indexes of bottom sediments, including sulfide content, total carbon (TC), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), and chemical oxygen demand(COD).The results show that the indexes of TC, TN, TP and COD for polyculture pond are significantly lower than those for S.japonicus monoculture pond.This implies that U.unicinctus may have positive effect on the improvement of sediment.Furthermore, the correlation between sulfide content and other indicators of bottom sediments for S.japonicus monoculture pond is analyzed.The results showe that sulfide content is significantly and positively correlated to TC, insignificantly and positively to COD and TP, with correlation coefficients of 0.933 0, 0.815 4, and 0.727 7, respectively.Sulfide content is insignificantly and negatively correlated to TN, with correlation coefficient of-0.161 0.Comprehensive analysis indicat that U.unicinctus may have beneficial effects on the improvement of sediment.Result of this work could provide theoretical basis for the bioremediation of S.japonicus culture system.
