摘要

Abstract

Electromagnetic metamaterial is a kind of new material which does not exist in nature.However,the metamaterials made by artificial recombination have many excellent physical properties which are not possessed by the conventional materials.The wide application prospect has aroused wide attention around the world.However,due to the narrow bandwidth and high loss of metamaterials,some metamaterials are difficult to be used in practical applications.The introduction of gain materials to overcome or even compensate the ohmic loss of metals is becoming more and more important in the field of electromagnetic metamaterials.Because of the important role of gain materials in the application of metamaterials,it has become a hotspot in recent years.In this paper,the history of metamaterials development was summarized,and the research status of the metamaterials at home and abroad was analyzed.The scholars who had made outstanding contributions in the development of metamaterials were introduced.Then the difficulties of metamaterials were summarized,the loss which was caused by metal in metamaterials could be compensated by the introduction of gain media.The influential work in the field of gain materials was described,and their representative works were cited to help scientists gain insight into development and research trends of gain materials.
