Abstract

Objective To understand the turnover intention of nursing staff in nursing homes and to analyze its influence factors. Methods Totally 202 nursing staffs from 8 nursing homes in Hangzhou were investigated using the questionnaire of general demographic characteristics, psychological contract scale and turnover intention scale then multiple stepwise regression analysis was used for data analysis. Results The total score of turnover intention of nursing staff in nursing homes was 13.21 ±3.38 and 103 nursing staffs had strong intentions to leave. There were negative correlations between turnover intention of nursing staff and psychological contract (r=-0.371, P<0.001). Psychological contract, age and working years were the main influencing factors of turnover intention of nursing staff(P<0.05). Conclusion Nursing staff in nursing homes present high level of turnover intention and more than half of the nursing staff have strong intentions to leave. Administrative staff in nursing homes should think highly of the status of turnover intention of nursing staff, especially pay attention to young nurses or nursing staff with short working years. Improvement of nursing staff' psychological contract will help to lower their turnover intention.
