Abstract
Objective To translate the English version of Family Resilience Assessment Scale(FRAS) into Chinese, and examine its reliability and validity of the Chinese version of FRAS among families with a cancer patient. Methods After obtaining the consent from the developer of FRAS,we adapted the English version of FRAS following the Brislin′s classic model for translation and validation of instruments guidelines for cross-cultural research, including translation, back translation, expert consultation for adjusting the items, then, after a pilot survey using the initial scale,we developed the formal Chinese version of FRAS.Using convenient sampling,344 cancer patients from Nanfang Hospital,Guangdong General Hospital, and Panyu Central Hospital were selected as the participants and surveyed by the Chinese version of FRAS between June and September 2016.Twenty participants were selected from those who had actively responded to the survey for the test-retest three weeks later. We set 27% of the participants with the total scores ≥165 and 27% with the total scores ≤152 as the high-score group and low-score group, respectively, and compared the scores of each item between the two groups.Linear analysis was performed to investigate the item-total correlation.Content validity analysis and exploratory factor analysis(EFA) were implemented to assess the validity.Common factors were extracted with principal component analysis and maximum variance orthogonal rotation. The Cronbach′s α,split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability were used for reliability analysis. Results There were significant differences in the scores for each item between the high-score group and low-score group(P<0.05).The analysis with Pearson′s correlation coefficient found that, the item-total correlation was positive(P<0.05).The S-CVI was 0.97.The Chinese version of FRAS consisted of 51 items.Six factors were extracted which explained 54.051% of the total variance. The Cronbach′s α,split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability for the scale was 0.944,0.807,0.917,respectively.The Cronbach′s α for the 6 common factors of the scale ranged from 0.700 to 0.951.Conclusion The Chinese version of FRAS demonstrates good reliability and validity during initial testing among families with a cancer patient. Therefore,it can be used as a tool to assess the level of resilience in such families.关键词
