Abstract
Objective:To determine the prevalence and distribution of idiopathic osteosclerosis(IO)in the jaw by computed tomograhic evaluation by cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT).Methods:Computed tomographs of 4271 patients,2005 males and 2266 females with different dental complaints and ages were examined for the presence of IO in the jaw bones.Results:A total of 492 radioopacities were detected,and 387 patients(238 females and 149 males)of 4271 patients(9.1%)were with IO.The prevalence between female and male was significant diffferent(P<0.05).Prevalences of IO in all decades were inconsistent.Among all the patients,the highest prevalence was in the 30~49 ages.The number of IO were three times in the mandible than in the maxillary.In addition,premolar and molar localization were the most common regions in the mandible,while in the maxillary,premolar localization were the most common.There were almost two times higher ratio of the type of entral sclerosis(66.5%)than enostosis(33.5%).Conclusion:The three-dimensional configuartion and the relationship with adjacent structures of idiopathic osteosclerosis could be portrayed comprehensively by using CBCT which has an obvious advantage in detecting IO in the maxillary.关键词
