Vibrational Power Flow Analysis of the Functionally Graded Beam with an Open Crack

Abstract
Functionally graded material (FGM) beams are more and more widely used in engineering. But, the existence of cracks in the beams will affect its local stiffness and some other properties and then change its vibration and wave propagation characteristics. In this paper, the wave propagation and power flow of a FGM beam with an open crack are studied. The flexibility of the crack is deduced by using the rotational spring model. The governing differential equations of the infinitely long functionally graded beam are established and its vibration characteristics are obtained by using the wave propagation method with the continuity conditions. The input power flow and transmission power flow of the intact and the cracked beams are calculated. The influences of material gradient, excitation frequency, crack location and crack size on the input power flow and transmission power flow are studied. This work provides the basis for future study on the damage identification of FGM structures.关键词
