Abstract

Pile foundation integrity is required to be tested in detection and evaluation of the high-piled wharf in service. According to the current water transport standard, the low strain reflection method was adopted, which demands the number of sampling piles shall not be less than 10% or 20% of the total number of piles and not be less than 10 piles. Besides, the sampling ratio should be expanded when the defects were detected. According to the multi-year safety evaluation of the high-piled wharf in service, especially the problems encountered in the verification of the wharf's berthing capacity and the reinforcement of the coastal wharf structure, the reasonableness of sampling ratio of pile integrity testing was discussed through the comparative analysis of the existing water transport standards, combined with the calculation results of the pile cutting damage effects on the horizontal bearing capacity. It is proposed that the safety detection of the high-piled wharf in service should be based on the qualification of construction quality of wharf pile foundation, so as to eliminate the potential safety hazards arising from the operation. According to the operational factors including operating ages, berthing methods, operating environment, abnormal berthing rate and structure type, piles which bear the worst load or are suspected to be incomplete should be selected as the object in verification testing.
