Abstract

An attapulgite supported AlCl3/ATP catalyst was prepared by equivalent-volume impregnation. Its catalytic performance was evaluated by Diels-Alder reaction between maleic anhydride and isoprene (a typical diene in catalytic cracking gasoline). Effects of support acidification conditions, AlCl3 loading amount and calcination conditions on the activity and selectivity of catalyst were investigated. The structure of the catalyst was characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, powder XRD, TG-DTG and BET. The results show that the surface area, pore volume and surface hydroxyl group of ATP increase obviously after acid treatment. AlCl3 reacts with surface hydroxyl groups to form active site (-O-)AlCl2, which significantly increases catalyst acidity and acid amount that leads to the improvement of catalyst activity and selectivity. The active site (-O-)AlCl2 is destroyed when the activation temperature exceeds 380℃. The optimal AlCl3/ATP preparation conditions are as follows:ATP pickling with 1.0 mol·L-1 HCl for 4 h, AlCl3 loading amount 0.75 mmol·g-1 and catalyst calcination at 250℃ for 4 h. The conversion of isoprene and selectivity of 4-MTHPA can reach to 98.8% and 93.7%, respectively.
