Effects of Buzhong Yiqi Wuling decoction on heart function and plasma levels of NT-proBNP and CysC in patients with chronic heart failure

Abstract
Objective:To study the effects of Buzhong Yiqi Wuling decoction on heart function and plasma levels of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and cystatin C (CysC) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF).Methods:120 patients with CHF were randomized into an observation group and a control group with 60 cases each.Patients in the control group received western medicine only,while patients in the observation group received western medicine with addition of Buzhong Yiqi Wuling decoction.Clinical symptoms,New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification,6 min walking test (6MWT),left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF),life quality score,Lee score,as well as the levels of NT-proBNP and CysC were compared between the two groups before and after treatment.Results:The improvement of ankle edema,distention of jugular vein,left ventricular function,myocardial ischemia,arrhythmia,heart function in the observation group were significantly better than those in the control group (P＜0.05).6MWT and LVEF in the observation group were significantly higher,while the life quality score,Lee score,and the levels of NT-proBNP and CysC were significantly lower than those in the control group (P＜0.05).Conclusion:Buzhong Yiqi Wuling decoction could help patients with CHF to improve the clinical symptoms and heart function,increase 6MWT and LVEF,and improve the quality of life.Its mechanism may be related to the decreased levels of NT-proBNP and CysC.关键词
