摘要

Abstract

Biodegradable magnesium alloy as the next generation of biomedical metal becomes popular in the field of biomaterials due to the suitable mechanical properties and its degradation products can be dischargedvia metabolism. However, the fast degradation of magnesium and its alloys restricts its clinic application. From the viewpoint of biodegradation and biocompatibility, recent progress in surface modification of biodegradable magnesium alloys for biomedical application was reviewed. Recent studies on the preparation of bioceramic coating (i.e., plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coating, Ca?P based coating and bioinert ceramic coatings on magnesium alloys) were given. In addition, future development on the surface modification of magnesium alloys was also proposed based on the requirement of clinical application and the modification technologies.
