Abstract

Tm3+, Yb3+ co-doped gadolinium yttrium oxide transparent ceramic powder was prepared by a citric acid combustion method. The ceramic powder is obtained under optimum preparation condition (i.e., calcination temperature of 1000℃; Gd3+ doped mole fraction of 20%; Tm3+ doped mole fraction of 4%; Yb3+ doped mole fraction of 5%), and the average particle size of (GdY)2O3:Tm,Ybpowderis approximately 65nm. The emission spectra of the powder show that the blue-ray appears at 484 nm, corresponding to the energy level transition of Tm3+ from 1G4 to3H6, and the red light at 658nm, corresponding to the energy level transition of Tm3+ from3F2to3H6 under the excitation at wavelength of 980 nm by a pump light. The (GdY)2O3:Tm,Yb ceramic was also prepared by a vacuum sintering with the ceramic powder prepared as a raw material, and the ceramic can be obtained under the optimum sintering parameters (i.e., final temperature of sintering of 1750℃, and sintering time of 20h). It is shown that the average transmittance at 400-3300nm is 71%.
