Abstract

Evaporation treatment was applied to landfill leachate and its concentrate after treatment with MBR-NF-RO.The impact of pH and the variation in the components of dissolved organic matter (DOM) were investigated in lab-scale experiments.The results demonstrated that the variations in concentration of COD and NH4+-N showed similar profiles in both leachate and concentrate, with the first increase following decline and final enhancement.When the residual ratio was set at 10%, the evaporation rate of NH4+-N increased gradually, coupling with the pH increase, despite TOC reduction.The major components of the landfill leachate and the concentrate were fulvic acid and humic acid;while plastein and tryptophan were the major components in the evaporated liquor.The effluent after concentrate evaporation could meet the requirements of “ Standard for Pollution Control on the Landfill Site of Municipal Solid Waste” (GB16889-2008).However, the effluent from leachate evaporation exceeded the standard requirement on NH4+-N concentration, which meant that the effluent should be treated further, by another process.
