Removal of NH4+-N from aqueous solutions using foam concrete

Abstract
Water polluted by NH4+-N from industrial activities is considered a serious problem for its harmful effects on human health and the environment.Therefore, it is especially important to find a simple and efficient method for treating NH4+-N wastewater.In this work, the characteristics of foam concrete were studied for adsorption of NH4+-N in synthetic solutions simulating industrial wastewater, using a static adoption method.The results showed that the foam concrete was an efficient adsorbent for removal of NH4+-N from wastewater.The removal rate and Qt of NH4+-N were 59.19% and 1.479 9 mg · g-1 after 90 min, respectively, at a foam concrete dosage of 40.0 g · L-1 to 100 mg · L-1 of NH4+-N at 25 ℃ and pH 8.38.The adsorption process follows the Freundlich isothermal equations and the adsorption processes were favorable.In addition, the adsorption of NH4+-N onto foam concrete preferably fitted the pseudo-second-order model.All the studied results indicated that foam concrete was an efficient and eco-friendly adsorbent useful for the removal of NH4+-N from wastewater.关键词
