Application of Different Numerical Methods in 3D Thermal Analysis for Fan-Ventilated Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines

Abstract
In order to study the application of different numerical methods in the three-dimensional temperature field calculation of electric machines, a 11kW, 1500r/min totally enclosed fan-ventilated line-start permanent magnet motor was taken as an example. The three-dimensional temperature field was calculated based on finite element method (FEM), finite formulation method (FFM), and finite volume method (FVM), respectively. With the use of multiple sets of meshes, the three-dimensional temperature field of permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) was calculated by both FFM and FEM, and the results were compared with the same grids. Meanwhile, the computing convergence of FFM with different grids was analyzed. Finally, the differences of temperature field calculation results with FFM, FEM and FVM were compared, and the accuracy of the calculation was verified by a temperature rise test.关键词
