Abstract
In recent years, rapid development of renewable energy in Northwest Power Grid squeezes space of conventional generating unit with rotational inertia, declines the primary frequency regulation resources and reduces anti-perturbation ability. So it is an urgent need to study implementation of renewable energy generating units to participate in grid frequency control. In this paper, four photovoltaic (PV) inverters in Northwest Power Grid were selected. Following active power-frequency static characteristics of conventional hydro and thermal units, the PV inverter control strategy was modified to complete active power-frequency droop control, and finally the PV inverters achieved fast frequency response. Combined with frequency characteristics test of Northwest Power Grid in the first half of 2016, fast frequency response capability of the PV inverters was systematically completed in domestic systems for the first time. The result shows that the PV inverters can participate in fast frequency response of the power grid, and its response characteristics are equivalent to the primary frequency performance of hydropower unit, better than that of thermal power unit. Besides, the result also shows that fast frequency response contribution of PV inverters is better than that of conventional thermal unit with the same capacity.关键词
