Efficient Simulation Model of MMC With Clamp Double Sub-Module for Complex AC and DC Power Grid Applications

Abstract
Modular multilevel converter (MMC) has extensive application in complex AC and DC power grid. The increase of power occupancy and voltage rating of MMC makes the effect of MMC dynamic behavior on power grid non- negligible and therefore it is required to build MMC model suitable for complex AC and DC power grid simulation. In this paper, efficient simulation model of MMC with clamp double sub-module is proposed. Its complicated arm circuit structure is simplified with help of auxiliary components. Cumbrous sub- module switching actions inside one arm are averaged by introducing a controlled voltage source, thus avoiding frequent solving of large-scale node admittance matrix. The proposed model can accurately simulate MMC behavior under stable state, AC fault, converter blocking and especially DC fault clearance and recovery with high efficiency. Compared with detailed model based on independent semiconductor, accuracy and simulation speed of the proposed model are validated with simulation results.关键词
