Abstract

The influence factors of particulate purifying technology for zirconium diboride powders were investigated.Thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry(TG-DSC), X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscope(SEM), transmission electron microscope(TEM) and X-ray fluorescence spectrometer(XRF) were used to characterized zirconium diboride powders and products after washing.It was discovered that, because B2O3 is soluble in hot water to produce boric acid solution, in order to remove B2O3 effectively, the products need to be washed and filtered repeatedly by hot water.Carbon impurities disappear gradually with the increase of temperature, however, upon heating to a relatively high temperature(700 ℃), the ZrB2 is oxidized, resulting in the products weight gains rapidly.The optimum condition is the heating temperature of 650 ℃ and heating time of 80 min, under this reaction condition, the carbon impurities are substantially removed but the oxygen content of the products remains high.In order to reduce oxygen content, the later research should be conducted in an inset atmosphere.
