Abstract

In this work,the influence of the iron precursor for carbothermal synthesis of magnetic carbonaceous adsorbents towards trichloroethylene removal was evaluated.Three iron salts were used to get three kinds of magnetic carbonaceous adsorbents: ferric chloride, ferric nitrate and ferrous sulfate.All adsorbents were prepared at different temperatures of 600, 700, 800 ℃ using sucrose as carbon source.The characterization of prepared adsorbents was done by different techniques such as nitrogen adsorption, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and so on.The three kinds of adsorbents presented different textural properties, iron dispersion and composition, thus leading to quite different abilities of trichloroethylene adsorption.The adsorption kinetics of the prepared adsorbents for trichloroethylene removal was performed and pseudo-second order kinetics equation was used to fit the data.In present study, ferric chloride was the best option of the precursor to synthesize magnetic carbonaceous adsorbents for trichloroethylene removal.
