Abstract
Objective To investigate the changes in levels of reduced glutathione (GSH) in serum of patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and to evaluate the effect of GSH on CHB.Methods We selected 44 patients with CHB (CHB group), including 34 cases with elevated ALT and 10 cases with normal ALT.Among 34 CHB patients with elevated ALT, 11 cases were HBV-DNA positive and 12 were negative, 12 were HBeAg positive and 11 were HBeAg negative.Thirty-four CHB patients with elevated ALT were randomly divided into the GSH treatment group and non-GSH treatment group with 17 in each.Patients in the GSH treatment group were treated with GSH injection for 4 weeks on the basis of comprehensive treatment. Before and after four-week treatment, we used the automatic biochemical analyzer to test the serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspertate aminotransferase (AST), total bilirubin (TBil), and albumin (ALB), and used the multimode reader to detect the serum level of GSH.In addition, 20 healthy people were selected as the control group. Results The serum GSH level in the CHB group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05).The serum GSH level of CHB patients with elevated ALT was lower than that in patients with normal ALT (P<0.05).The difference in the serum GSH between HBV-DNA positive and negative, between HBeAg positive and negative patients was not statistically significant (P>0.05).After treatment with GSH, the serum levels of ALT, AST, and DBIL were lower, but ALB level was higher in the GSH treatment group than those of the non-GSH treatment group (all P<0.05).Serum GSH level in CHB patients was negatively correlated with ALT level (r=-0.897, P<0.05).Conclusion Serum GSH level of CHB patients decreases, and GSH injection could improve the liver function of CHB patients.关键词
