Abstract

Stand-alone generation system based on brushless doubly-fed machine (BDFM) can be used in remote areas for individual power supply or ship shaft generation.However,the speed encoder in the system partly weakens the benefits introduced by the brushless structure.This problem can be solved by introducing speed estimation technology,which gets real-time speed information through estimation algorithm.In this paper,the model reference adaptive concept was introduced into the BDFM stand-alone generation system,and an improved model reference adaptive system (MRAS)was structured for rotor speed estimation.The reference frame in the proposed MRAS was aligned with control winding (CW)current vector of the BDFM,the q-axis CW current component (constant zero) was selected as the reference model,and the q-axis CW current estimation model with rotor speed as variable was treated as the adjustable model.Such a MRAS not only simplifies the calculations of the reference and adjustable models,but also turns the operation of vector crossmultiplication between the reference model and the adjustable model into the operation of scalar subtraction.In addition,the proposed MRAS is generality and flexibility because it is based on the measurable voltages and currents,and thus is adaptable to different control systems.
