Modeling and Experimental Study on the Quench Characteristics of Non-uniform REBCO Coated Conductors

Abstract
This paper investigated the quench propagation characteristics of non-uniform REBa2Cu3O7-δ (ReBCO,RE=rare earth) coated conductors (CCs).Four non-uniform ReBCO CCs cases were studied:Cu-laminated sample with point defect,bare sample with point defect,Cu-laminated sample with regional defect and bare sample with regional defect.A numerical simulation was done using fimite element method (FEM) for the thermal stability of non-uninform ReBCO CCs during quench propagation.The temperature transitions process in defect region were conveniently simulated through developing the suitable thermal analysis model.The peak temperatures in defect region and normal zone propagation velocity (NZPV) in the four non-uniform cases were simulated.The relation between defect length and quench current by defect was investigated.The quench characteristics of non-uniform ReBCO CCs were analyzed and compared between point defect and regional defect.The numerical results are consistent with experiments.The results are useful for the quench detection and protection design of ReBCO CCs in industrial applications.关键词
