An assessment model of consumer-based food risk communication quality

Abstract
Food risk communication quality assessment plays an important role in food risk communication practice. However, the specific evaluative dimensions are not very clear currently and it also lacks of effective evaluation models. This study aims to develop a consumer-based food risk communication quality assessment model (CFRCQ) by applying the normative scale development method. Model development process includes 3 steps: 1) to develop the initial model through focus group, expert consultation method and literature review; 2) to identify and test significant variables from the initial model by exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confidence level test of 96 student samples; and 3) to finalize the model by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of 401 consumer samples. The final model includes 5 dimensions of timeliness, understandability, expertise, honesty and responsiveness to evaluate consumer-based food risk communication quality. The evaluation result from this model for current food safety communication quality in China shows that the current food safety communication quality in China is low, especially in understandability and honesty dimensions. In addition, consumer characters can influence consumers' judgement on each CFRCQ dimension.关键词
