Abstract

The growth,development and reproduction of Episyrphus balteatus feeding on four Myzus persicae populations which grew in different host plants were observed. The results indicated that the duration of larvae and pupae of E. balteatus feed-ing on M. persicae in tobacco plants was the shortest,being 8.91 and 8.31 days,respectively;the duration of larva and pupae of E. balteatus feeding on M. persicae in other 3 host plants was 9.10~11.60 and 8.83~9.52 days,respectively. In addition,the a-dult longevity of E. balteatus feeding on M. persicae in tobacco plants was the longest (47.18 days),and its oviposition was the most (404.82 egg/female);while the adult longevity of E. balteatus feeding on M. persicae in chrysanthemum plants was the shor-test (33.14 days),and its oviposition was the least (274.08 egg/female). The obtaining rate of adults of E. balteatus feeding on M. persicae reared in tobacco plants was the highest,reaching 67. 00%,which was followed by that in Chinese cabbage (60.25%),peach tree (53.00%),and chrysanthemum (48.50%). So,host plants could further affect E. balteatus through M. persicae,and the suitable host plants should be selected in the rearing of E. balteatus.
