Effects of Near-fault Velocity Pulse Motions on Seismic Responses of the RC Frame

Abstract
Although the influence of near-fault velocity pulse on the seismic responses of reinforced concrete (RC) structures is notable,current seismic design code does not make comprehensive analysis on structural velocity response.In this paper two groups of strong ground motion records within the rupture distance of 20 km in Wenchuan earthquake are selected:three velocity pulse and three non-pulse records.Then,the characteristics of these six records are analyzed for comparison in the velocity spectrum,V2 time-frequency response spectrum (V2 TFRS) and the accumulative kinetic energy curve respectively.Finally,a RC frame structure is simulated to analyze the nonlinear seismic damage behaviors and the effects of strong velocity pulse on the structure subjected to pulse and non-pulse motions.Results show that the input energy of near-fault pulse motions is much greater than that of the non-pulse motions.Furthermore,pulse motions have a damage effect on the long period structures in the near-fault region.关键词
