Comparative study of vector control strategies for FTPMM applied in ship electric propulsion system

Abstract
In ship electric propulsion systems, the propulsion motor must be associated with an overall control strate-gy.In this study, we investigated space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and the current hysteresis band pulse width modulation (CHBPWM) in the three-phase fault-tolerant permanent magnet motor (FTPMM).Combi-ning the circuit structure with the principle of the H-bridge inverter, we introduce the basic principle of the SVP-WMand CHBPWMand compare and analyze their differences and similarities with respect to the harmonic wave and control effects.Then, we used Matlab/Simulink to develop simulations and constructed an experimental plat-form for the vector control system on which we performed a series of experiments.Based on our simulation and ex-perimental results, compared with CHBPWM, we found the utilization rate of DC-link voltage to be higher and the torque ripples smaller in SVPWM.In addition, CHBPWMcan be used in high-demand conditions requiring speed and quick torque response on a priority basis.Different control strategies can be selected for the different purposes and demands of electric propulsion ships.关键词
