Numerical Simulation Irreversible Electroporation Based Tumor Treatment

Abstract
The application of appropriate pulsed electric field to cells causes irreversible structure changes in cell membrane and eventually leads cell death. This phenomenon, known as irreversible electroporation (IRE) is emerging as a powerful tool for non-thermal tumor ablation therapy. Determination of the appropriate parameters to induce maximal damage to the tumor while sparing surrounding healthy tissue is vital for the success of irreversible electroporation-based cancer treatment. The purpose of this study herein is to summarize the general numerical simulation strategy of the irreversible electroporation cancer therapy. We first reviewed the numerical simulation studies on the irreversible electroporation cancer therapy in the past decade, then summarized the mechanisms of cell death during IRE and the design proposal of irreversible electroporation cancer therapy and finally illustrated the numerical simulation method of irreversible electroporation cancer therapy by Comsol Multiphysics examples.关键词
