Abstract

With the deep development of mineral resources and geological surveys in the Qimantage metallogenic belt of Qinghai, geophysical methods are playing a more and more important role, especially in the prospecting of concealed deposits. The experiments and demonstration work of the geophysi-cal methods including gravity, magnetism, IP intermediate gradient, CSAMT and AMT, have been conducted in the Xiarihamu nickel mine area and its periphery, which hosts typical topographic features in the Qimantage metallogenic belt in Qinghai. The results show that these methods are effective in the mineral resources and geological surveys in this area after solving some technical problems in the implementation process. Further summaries suggest that when geophysical methods are used to investigate the focused areas, the high-precision gravity, magnetic and IP intermediate gradient surveys at scales greater than 1:10000 should be carried out first, followed by fine analysis of the measured anomalies. Based on them, IP and electromagnetic sounding are made successively, permitting to determine depths of geological bodies in the subsurface. Finally, a comprehensive analysis on the metallogenic prospect is performed. This paper summarizes the effectiveness experiments of geophysical methods which can be used as a reference for the selection of geophysical methods in the mineral resources and geological survey in the Qimantage metallogenic belt of Qinghai.
