Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome Can Cause Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

Abstract
Objective To improve the understanding of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) caused by Ramsay-Hunt syndrome. Methods The clinical data of a patient with BPPV caused by Ramsay-Hunt syndrome was reviewed. Results A sixty year old female patient was presented to the clinic due to right ear pain and facial paralysis for 2 days, verti-go for one day. The vertigo associated with changes in head position. Physical Examination:A cluster of blisters on the right ear cavity and right peripheral facial paralysis were found. Dix-Hallpike test showed a typical right posterior semicircular canal BPPV. The primary diagnosis was Ramsay-Hunt syndrome and secondary right posterior semicircular canal BPPV. The Li ma-neuver was used for the BPPV of the patient. The vertigo was disappeared the next day, and no recurred after follow up for one month and the facial paralysis was no improved. Conclusion BPPV can be caused by Ramsay-Hunt syndrome. It should be pay attention to the diagnosis and differential diagnosis. The repositioning maneuver is effective for the BPPV.关键词
