Abstract

Pump as turbine (PAT) can recycle the energy conveniently and quickly,and has significant application value in the industry and agriculture.The precondition of PAT application is to understand the conversion factors of performance parameter between the pump mode and the turbine mode for a centrifugal pump.The PAT rotor characteristic equation was deduced in this paper,based on Euler equation of rotomachinery and velocity relations of rotor inlet and outlet.According to the principle of characteristic matching between impeller and volute in a centrifugal pump,the formula was obtained for predicting the optimal point parameters such as flow rate and head of PAT.The performance prediction method is universal and practical,only needs the geometry parameters of rotor and volute without restriction in specific speeds.The prediction method was validated by experiment results of PAT,and the errors between prediction and experiment results were within the tolerance of engineering.That indicates the performance prediction method developed in this paper is feasible and can provide theoretical tool in selection and operation of PAT.
