The Relationship Among Empathy Ability,Perceived Social Support and Depression of Elderly in Community of Beijing

Abstract
Objective:To explore the relationship among empathy ability,perceived social support and depression of elderly.Methods:The Hebrew version of Interpersonal Reactivity Index(IRI)questionnaire,Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS)and the Geriatric Depression Scale(GDS)were used to investigate related psychological characteristics of 511 community elders in Beijing,and the correlation analysis and mediating model examining by indirect macroprogram were used on the data.Results:There was a negative correlation between total score of GDS and PSSS as well as IRI(r=-0.427,-0.212;P＜0.01),while the PSSS scores was positively correlated with IRI scores(r=0.373,P ＜0.01),perceived social support was a partial mediator between empathy and geriatric depression.Conclusion:Empathy and perceived social support are associated with geriatric depression,perceived social support plays an intermediary role between empathy ability and depression of elderly in the community.关键词
