摘要

Abstract

Objective To clarify the microstructure properties of human enamel on the micro-and nano-scale and analyze its effects on the mechanical properties.Methods The intact extracted maxillary third molars were embedded using epoxy resin and cut by the precision cutting machine.The thickness of transverse and longitudinal sections was 1 mm.The samples were observed using scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope after polishing or ion thinning.Results Under micro scale,the microstructure of enamel varied from the occlusion surface to the dentin-enamel junction.The rods arranged parallel to each other on the surface and the rods intercrossed on the dentin-enamel junction.Under nano scale,the hydroxyapatite(HA) crystals arrangement of head rods had better directionality than that of tail rods.Conclusion Under different scales,the enamel has diverse microstructures at the different location and it could affect the mechanical properties of tooth enamel.
