摘要

Abstract

Rabconnectin-3(rbc3) protein is a member of the rab small GTP-binding protein family, and contains two subunits calledαandβ. Human rbc3αis encoded by the dmxl-2 (dmx like-2) gene which is located on chromosome 15 q2.1, consists of 3,036 amino acids, shows a calculated Mr of 339,753 and contains 12 WD domains. Research has found that rbc3αexpresses in both the brain and inner ear of rodent and primate animals, as well as in the lateral line or-gan of zebra fish. As relevant research continues, rbc3αis found not only to be involved in hearing loss, but also related with various diseases. For example, dmxl-2 mutation can affect the outcomes of hormonal therapy resistant breast can-cer. Besides, such mutations are related with aromatase excess syndrome. Therefore, the biological function of rabcon-nectin-3αhas become a hot topic of recent research. The present review summarizes research progress on the biological functions of rbc3αin relation to pathophysiology involving hair cells and auditory nerve in recent years.
