Abstract
Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) can be caused by lesions of inner ear sensory cells. Treatment of SNHL remains a challenge for clinicians. A new treatment for SNHL is the repair and regeneration of inner ear sensory cells using stem cells. Numerous advances currently have been achieved in this area. Because of their low immunogenic-ity and easy accessibility, mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have recently been considered as one of potentially ideal alternatives to restore degenerated inner ear sensory cells. However, research methods vary among research groups, from preparation to transplantation of stem cells, and no standardized process is established yet. This article focuses on the progress by Ding-hua Xie's group in treating SNHL and describes the latest advances worldwide. The paper aims to establish preliminary standards for stem cells preparation and quality control for treatment of SNHL, and to provide the-oretical evidence for clinical treatment of SNHL using stem cells.关键词
