Preparation of Fe-Mn Palygorskite Catalysts and their Cooperation with Ozonation in Simulated Methyl Orange Wastewater Treatment

Abstract
Raw palygorskite (PG) resources are abundant in China with lower price than traditional catalyst carriers (such as activated carbon and rare-earth-containing carriers). Raw PG was selected as a catalyst carrier in this study. The specific surface area, pore volume and pore diameter of PG are increased by 74.1%, 204%, and 74.3% respectively after purification, which further increase by 24.5%, 23.4%, and 11.1% respectively after acid modification. The treated PG was loaded with Fe3+ and Mn2+ with a sol-gel method and was used with ozonation to treat simulated methyl orange wastewater. The removal of color and chemical oxygen demand (COD) of the wastewater are 99.96% and 92.47%, respectively. Kinetic results show the degradation of simulated methyl orange wastewater is of first-order kinetics model, and the reaction mechanism follows the radical oxidation mechanism. The Fe-Mn loaded PG catalyst combined with ozonation can be used for color and COD removal of dye wastewater.关键词
