Abstract

Electrospun methyl stearate/polyethylene terephthalate (MES/PET) form-stable phase change composite fibers were fabricated.Distribution structure of the MES acting as solid-liquid PCMs and the PET acting as supporting materials in the form-stable phase change composite fibers was studied.Research results illustrate that the MES component serving as disperse phase is randomly dispersed in the continuous supporting matrix of the PET fibers during electrospinning process.FT-IR analysis indicated no chemical reaction between MES molecules and PET molecules.Melting and freezing temperatures of the MES/PET form-stable phase change composite fibers are 39.84℃ and 27.96℃,and their melting and freezing enthalpies could reach up to 90.43kJ/kg and 88.03kJ/kg,respectively.TGA results suggest that thermal stability of form-stable phase change composite fibers is improved by choosing the PET fibers as supporting materials because the PET fibers have better thermal stability than the MES molecules.Results of tensile tests show that form-stable phase change composite fibers exhibit a typical brittle failure characteristic,and their averaged tensile strength increase with the increase of MES content.
