Rationale for Developing Chinese Aphasia Language Battery

Abstract
Chinese Aphasia Language Battery (Standard Edition)(CALB) was designed to provide a comprehensive assessment of language deficits in Chinese individuals with aphasia.It was developed based on cognitive neuropsychological models of lexical processing and the two-stage model of sentence processing,combines with the features of modern Chinese phonology,lexicon,syntax and semantics,and refers to Chinese cognitive psychology as well.The CALB was jointly developed by Beijing Language and Culture University and Northwestern University in reference to the Northwestern Naming Battery (NNB) and the Northwestern Assessment of Verbs and Sentences (NAVS).It is the first language competence assessment tool for Chinese aphasia designed based on language cognitive theories.On the basis of describing the language deficits of aphasia,this paper introduces the rationale for developing both tests of the CALB:the Naming Battery and the Assessment of Verbs and Sentences in detail.关键词
