Formation and Function of Ettringite in Cement Hydrates

Abstract
Ettringite is one of the important hydration products of Portland cement and sulphoaluminate cement. This paper reviewed the advances in ettringite researches with regard to the foundational characteristics, formation conditions, stability and function. The further hot topics and difficulties in ettringite research were also discussed. It is suggested that the formation, stability and function of ettringite could be related to the equilibrium between supplies of several components. Despite there is no exchange of component with the external environment, it is still difficult to control the formation or keep the stability of ettringite all the time. For Portland cement, it would decrease the negative effect of ettringite when controlling the sulphate supply, while keeping the supply of sulphate would favor sulphoaluminate cement.关键词
