摘要

Abstract

The effect of indigenous microorganisms on the biomineralization of Microbe Cement was investigatedvia the measurements of optical density and pH value as well as the evolution of dissolved calcium and dissolved inorganic carbon, respectively. The results show that the dissolved calcium is precipitated as CaCO3 reacts quickly in the bacteria-free culture rather than in the nature, despite the presence of the indigenous microorganisms can serve as the nucleation sites in the form of bacterial cells. The indigenous microorganisms exhibit a considerably high growth rate, resulting in less favorable chemical conditions in the nature culture,i.e., lower pH value and lower CO32- concentration. It is suggested that the presence of the indigenous microorganisms could decelerate the biomineralization of Microbe Cement and their effect should be taken into consideration. Furthermore, the injection of S. pasteurii does not require the addition of any nutrients for ureolysis to proceed over several days. The absence of nutrient addition reduces the risk of stimulating metabolic process other than ureolysis.
