Abstract

The influence of the physicochemical properties of kitchen waste and anaerobic fermentation on hydrogen production potential after different hydrothermal pre-treatments was investigated.Two typical kitchen wastes that are common in Beijing were analyzed under different temperatures (40,80,120 and 160 ℃) and heating intervals (30,60,90 and 120 min).The results showed that the content of floatable oil was significantly affected by temperature and the time of the hydrothermal pre-treatment.The levels of SCOD and TOC changes were negatively correlated with VS/TS.The kitchen waste degree of floatable oil,SCOD,and TOC at the hydrothermal conditions of 120 ℃ and 30 min of treatment were 17 mL · kg-1,150.99 g · L-1,and 57.91 g · L-1,respectively.The kitchen waste degree of floatable oil,SCOD,and TOC at the hydrothermal conditions of 160 ℃ and 30 min of treatment were 99 mL· kg-1,120.69 g· L-1,and 62.58 g· L-1,respectively.At 160 ℃ for 30 min,under mesophilic and thermophilic conditions,the rates of hydrogen production and maximum hydrogen production were 40.58 mL · g-1 VS and 29.20 mL · h-1 which were 0.78 and 2.02 times higher than the control sample,respectively.The start-up time reduced by more than one time compared with the control under mesophilic conditions.The solubility and bioavailability of organic wastes can be enhanced using a modest hydrothermal pretreatment system that improves the hydrogen production yield and efficiency.
