Abstract

The influence of asphalt composition on its surface energy can provide theoretical basis for revealing the difference of adhesion between asphalt and aggregate.Based on surface energy theory, the surface energy of different asphalts was measured by the contact angle method.Furthermore,the association relationship of surface energy with macroscopic performance,four components,elemental composition and average structural unit parameters was analyzed.The results show that the contact angle method can effectively measure the surface energy of asphalt,surface energy of the four kinds of asphalt is between 17.36 ~23.1 1 mJ/m2,and shows a greater difference.There is no obvious regularity between the surface energy and the macroscopic performance.The saturate is the most important factor affecting the surface energy.The higher the content of the saturate fraction,the lower the asphaltene content,and the greater the surface energy.H,H /C and C content is the main factor affecting the surface energy,the higher H,H /C,C content and the lower the heteroatom content, the greater the surface energy.For the average structural unit parameters,the alkyl chain branching degree and the alkyl carbon rate are the main factors affecting the surface energy.The higher the alkyl carbon rate and degree of alkyl chain branching,the lower the aromatic carbon ratio and aromatic ring system,and the greater the surface energy.
