DEVELOPMENT CHARACTERISTICS AND EXPLORATION POTENTIAL OF THE LACUSTRINE FACIES AND COAL-BEARING SOURCE ROCKS IN AUSTRALIAN SOUTH MARGIN

Abstract
Taking the studying method of palaeoecology as the core,on the theoretical bases of tectonic controlled sedimentation and its evolution,comprehensively adopting the drilling,seismic and the other data,the development characteristics of the lacustrine-facies and coal-bearing source rocks in Australian South Margin were explored.This study indicates that the regions with the characteristics of "low-frequency continuous strong reflections" in the seismic phase in the center of the half-graben formed in the rift stage of Bight Basin and Otway Basin in the west are the favorable parts of the development of the lacustrine source rocks,the lacustrine-facies source rocks in Gippsland Basin in the east are generally deposited in the shallow lacustrine background,which are much better source rocks,the oil and gas distributions are characterized by the "the oil in the west and the gas in the east";the developed scale of the coal-bearing strata and the coal-forming materials in the transition stage are the main controlling factors to the hydrocarbon distributions,the dual structural characteristics of the source rocks are formed:the oil generated in the deep lacustrine facies of Bight Basin and Otway Basin;the gas generated in the delta-facies coal-bearing strata and the shallow lacustrine facies of Gippsland Basin;and the oil generated in the coastal plain-facies coal-bearing source rocks.The near-shore & onshore banded or en-echelon half-grabens and the shallow shelf region in Bight Basin and Otway Basin are the favorable exploration zones,so are the central rift belt and the northern terrace of Gippsland Basin.关键词
