Abstract

In order to study the effect of the engineering measure of that sprinkling water on the joint surface of asphalt concrete core-wall on the interlayer bonding quality of the core-wall,trabecular bending tests are carried out through the in-door simulation of the construction of asphalt concrete core-wall under different temperatures of the joint surfaces.The test result shows that after sprinkling water on the joint surface of the core-wall,the aggregate at the boding surface is disorderedly ranged without any phenomena of significant stratifications,while the lowest bending strength of the asphalt concrete at the bonding surface is about 1.56 MPa with the lowest bending strain of about 1.9%,and then can meet the requirements on both the bending strength and the bending strain specified in the" Design Specification of Asphalt Concrete Facings and Corses for Embankment Dams" (DL/T 5411-2009).The strength and strain at the bonding surface are decreased along with the decrease of the temperature of the joint surface.When the joint surface temperature is 75 ℃,both the strength and the stain are decreased by about 10% with a smaller declined amplitude,thus this temperature can be taken as the allowable lowest temperature for the joint surface without artificial heating when this measure is adopted.The study result shows that the engineering measure can avoid the pollutions from the organic solvents,such as diesel oil,etc.,by which not only the density,porosity and anti-seepage performance of the asphalt concrete as well as the interlayer bonding quality of the core-wall can not be impacted,but the construction cost can also be saved.
